Big Reuse is NYC’s only non-profit retail outlet for salvage and surplus building materials. They are located in Brooklyn and Queens. This lumber, recycled from old city park benches, is just a sampling of the materials they have available. Reuse centers have everything from panel doors to high-end refrigerators and movie props.
RESOURCES
Big Reuse’s centers have many tons of salvaged materials that are on sale at half or below their new prices. Relaimed lumber is one of the many materials of constant supply at Big Reuse.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Big Reuse is working to reduce the amount of unnecessary construction and demolition waste clogging landfills, which contributes to pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and global warming.
HUMAN HEALTH
Big RReuse does not accept donations of oil-based or hazardous paints and coatings. Most Big Reuse materials are inert and do not pose any health issues during reuse, aside from dust produced from sanding/refurbishing.
SOCIAL EQUITY
In addition to their centers, Big Reuse also supports local environmental initiatives around the city, such as BIG! Compost, Big Blooms that recycle retired scaffolding into raised garden beds at community gardens, and Solar One, providing educational programs, environmental lectures, and art events at local schools.
