Chalk Paint (distinct from chalkboard paint) is a decorative paint that can be applied to most surfaces without preparation, including wood, metal, plastic and cement. The colors are mixable, and can be applied indoors and outdoors. It is recommended for walls, furniture, and other objects. Chalk Paint has a matte appearance.

RESOURCES
All colors of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint constain talc, calcium carbonate, and quartz. Certain colors also contain nepheline syenite, carbon black, iron oxides, and secondary alcohol ethoxylate, an emulsifying agent. The paint can be thinned with water or thickened through evaporation.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Alc is acquired from open pit mining, and calcium carbonate may be mined above or underground. In both cases mining can impact nearby water supplies and destroy habitats. Volatile organic compound emissions from Chalk Paint are negligible. Annie Sloan encourages the refurbishment of old furniture, which reduces waste.

HUMAN HEALTH
Chalk paint carries a carcinogen warning due to its quartz and carbon black content. The greatest risk of exposure is when sanding dried paint. The small particles can be inhaled, causing irritation and possible cancer. When applying Chalk Paint, wear gloves and work in a well ventilated area. Once it is dried, the paint is food safe.
