a piece of wood with a heavy textured grain

The Hudson Company. An unfinished lumber that comes from the bedding bins used in mushroom growing facilities. This material consists of a range of wood species.

RESOURCES

The timber is reclaimed from the bedding bins used in mushroom-growing facilities in Pennsylvania and New York. Enzymes are released by the mushrooms during growth cycles that digest and erode the softwood, resulting in an organic sculpted effect on the softwoods’ surfaces as well as a deep-grained texture and caramel hue.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The Hudson Company’s waste is primarily used to fuel their facility’s furnace and provide heat. The wood is transported both to the facility in Pine Plains, New York, and to customers bundled in large packs and shipped on flatbed trucks.

HUMAN HEALTH
The wood poses no known threat to human health as it contains no paint or harmful chemicals.

SOCIAL EQUITY
The Hudson Company employs local members of the community. They have a team of New York-based craftsmen and women that includes carpenters, installers, finishers, millworkers, and tooling specialists.
