Loop to Loop is the result of the closed-loop system that recycles textile waste and waste already recycled back into the product. A textile produced from the collaboration of four environmentally conscious companies, designed by Designtex, woven by Victor with Unifi yarn, and used on Steelcase furniture.
RESOURCES
The product is composed of 87% PCR polyester, much from PET water bottles, 12% PIR polyester, as well as a small percentage, 1%, of new polyester.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Loop to Loop is the first closed-loop system that recycles textile waste back into a product, where the new material can be continuously recycled while retaining the original fiber’s quality. The textile is carbon neutral.
HUMAN HEALTH
PET water bottles that consist of the material may release antimony when processed. Designtex explains that any toxins in manufacturing are contained. Designtex partners with Material IQ, an initiative dedicated to transparent material health information.
SOCIAL EQUITY
Designtex contributes to a variety of charities with volunteers and monetary and material contributions, including Habitat for Humanity, City Harvest, and Materials for the Arts.
