Stone wool is a versatile natural material with multiple benefits that makes it ideal for applications in buildings, industry, transportation, horticulture, and water management.

RESOURCES
Stone wool is transformed from volcanic rock, which is done through a circular process. Their products are made from natural and abundant materials that are designed for better and more durable use, and can be infinitely recycled. They take back stone wool material from construction, renovation, and demolition sites and recycle it into a production process to make new stone wool products.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Rockwool puts special measures in place for protected species found on-site, such as dormice. As dormice are a nocturnal species, the lighting system had to be carefully designed to mitigate any impact. They are also supporting the development of the Seahorse Hotel, made of stone wool. Despite being home to one of Europe’s biggest seahorse colonies, heavy industrial activity in the region has brought with it negative impacts on the seawater and the seahorse population. They target biodiversity by adapting the mindset of restoring the world’s ecosystems and adequately protecting them.

HUMAN HEALTH
Their production process aims to reduce these emissions by 38 percent by 2034 compared to the baseline of 2019 through three main levers: energy efficiency of factories, technology innovation, and circularity. ROCKWOOL replaced the coal-fired melting furnace at this factory with an electrical one, powered entirely by certified, renewable electricity from Swiss hydropower. The result is a reduction in annual CO2 emissions from the factory by 75 percent, equivalent to 25,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

SOCIAL EQUITY
Rock wool has human rights policies and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
