Mr. Ellie Pooh is made elephant dung from Sri Lanka, home to about a tenth of the world’s total 40,000 Asian elephants. It is cleaned, processed , and turned into textured paper.
RESOURCES
The paper is made of 30% fiber from elephant dung and 70% PCR paper. Natural vegetable binding agents, along with water-soluble salt dyes for coloring, are used. All organizations use recycled or easily biodegradable materials for packing whenever possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Paper made with 100% recycled content uses 44% less energy, produces 38% less GHG emissions, 41% less particulate emissions, 50% less wastewater, 49% less solid waste, and less forest destruction than using virgin wood. Farmers are compensated for damage to their crops by elephants.
HUMAN HEALTH
All paper is 100% recycled, acid-free and organic. The organization supports marginalized small producers, whether these are independent family businesses or grouped in associations or cooperatives.
SOCIAL EQUITY
The organization trades with concern for the social, economic, and environmental well-being of marginalized small producers and does not maximize profit at their expense.
