ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Per the mass balance approach, both synthetic and natural polymers are mixed together with a bio-plasticizer in a proprietary mix that reduces the carbon emissions by 60%, when compared to traditional homogeneous vinyl floors. The total carbon footprint of the product, assuming post-use recycling, is approximately 3.09 kg CO2/m2. Tarkett was awarded a Platinum sustainability rating by EcoVadis with a score of 81/100, placing them in the top 1% of rated companies. The company also offers a flooring take-back and recycling program that takes customers’ used flooring and provides them with a certificate showing the volume of material diverted from landfill. Tarkett is also rated A-level by the Carbon Disclosure Project and SBTi approved.

HUMAN HEALTH
Across Tarkett’s global organization, 94% of more than 3,000 raw materials have been assessed by the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA) according to Cradle to Cradle principles. As a result, ortho-phalates have been eliminated from all of their flooring products, which also deliver low or ultralow VOC content and are free of all Six Classes of harmful chemicals as identified by the Green Science Policy Institute, including antimicrobials and forever chemicals like PFAS.

SOCIAL EQUITY
Tarkett’s iQ line addresses the fact that underfunded communities are exposed to higher amounts of air pollution, causing a disproportionate level of asthma and allergies within the communities. The tests for asthma & allergy friendly® certification have demonstrated that iQ products are scientifically engineered to prevent the spread of infection, simplify care and maintenance, and support better indoor air quality.
