Xorel is a 85% Biobased PE, 15% PE backing technology that prevents stains and moisture in textiles while allowing vapor to escape.
RESOURCES
Carnegie uses a biobased Xorel and polypropylene to make their textiles. Carnegie also has a return program for samples and decommissioned projects that use their product. Once received the product is sent to the OSHA star rated Waste to Energy facility just minutes from Carnegie’s office to be re-processed into secondary consumer products like grocery bags, beverage containers, cosmetics, etc.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Carnegie avoids using finishes on most of their products because traditional coatings containing PFOA are highly toxic. In the rare cases where a finish is applied, it is always PFOA-free.
HUMAN HEALTH
Carnegie has a Living Product Challenge Certification, a gold certification by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, and Indoor Air Quality certification from SCS Indoor Advantage. Carnegie uses third party certifications and HPD’s (health product declaration) for each product they have. All products very low VOCs.
SOCIAL EQUITY
Carnegie became a certified B corporation in 2014 as a recognition for good practice in their environmental and social spaces.
